The International Fair
of Old Master Painting
Created in 2011, Paris Tableau is an initiative of ten dealers whose goal was not only to promote the profession of antique dealer, but above all: to share with as many people as possible their immoderate taste for old master painting.
Paris Tableau,
a fair made by art dealers
Maurizio Canesso, Heré Aaron, Éric Coatalem, Bertrand Gautier, Bob Haboldt, Jean-François Heim, Georges de Jonckheere, Jacques Leegenhoek, Giovanni Sarti and Claude Vittet joined forces to create a company to bring their project to life.
L’Agence d’Evénements Culturels was their service provider from the beginning, acting as both organizer and manager.
An excellent offer
for the elitist market
of old master painting
Throughout its editions, Paris Tableau has brought together between 20 and 26 exhibitors, and dealers of antique frames have joined the galleries.
This intentionally reduced format, due to the excellence requirement imposed on participants, similar to the Salon du dessin, has allowed Paris Tableau to attract a public of experienced collectors and connoisseurs.

When Paris Tableau
celebrated
old master painting…
To showcase the multiple facets of old masters from the 15th to the 19th century, Paris Tableau not only brought together high-level galleries: exhibitions and symposiums dotted all of its editions.
2011
During the first edition of Paris Tableau at the Palais de la Bourse in Paris, old master painting was presented through the prism of the personal collection of the famous contemporary artist Jeff Koons. The following year, it was celebrated through a film festival featuring a selection of films in which artists and their works took center stage.
Paris Tableau also created bridges with institutions such as the INHA through the exhibition L’envers du tableau (The Other Side of the Painting).
2012
In 2012, the Mobilier National presented the Les trésors retrouvés des Gogelins (Treasures found again from the Gobelins) (2012), and exhibition which unveiled to the public a dozen painted canvases and cartoons discovered in the reserves of the Mobilier National thanks to the findings of the curator Arnauld Brejon de Lavergnée, and to a patient and rigorous restoration work.
From the painted cartoon to the woven work, there is only one step, and it is this unique process that the Trésors retrouvés des Gobelins exhibition highlighted.
2013
In 2013, the focus was on exploring the legal and tax avenues specific to the French system that encourage the creation of collections through donation under usufruct.
That same year, Paris Tableau made its contribution to art history by paying tribute to the famous art historian Federico Zeri through a joint symposium with the Zeri Foundation : Federico Zeri and the Connoisseurship.
2014
In 2014, Paris Tableau shed light on the different ways of conceiving and building a collection, whether one is a private collector, a foundation, or a public institution.
This was the subject of the exhibition Trois collections, une seule passion (Three collections, one passion), presenting masterpieces from the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, the P. & N. de Boer Foundation, and AXA ART.
In partnership with the Custodia Foundation, the symposium Utrecht et le mouvement caravagesque international (Utrecht and the international Caravaggist movemen), brought together experts from around the world, including Dr. Liesbeth M. Helmus, curator of old paintings at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, and Prof. Dr. Volker Manuth, professor of art history at Radboud Universiteit, Nijmegen.
2015
Art of living. Living for art. Living with art… was the common thread of the 2015 edition.
It materialized in an Art and Wine tour through paintings exhibited at the fair, the reconstruction of artistic director Bruno Frisoni’s studio revealing the secrets of his creative process, and an international symposium entitled Aux origines du goût : la peinture baroque aux Etats-Unis. (At the origins of taste: Baroque painting in the United States).
2016
In 2016, Paris Tableau joined the Biennale des Antiquaires at the Grand Palais.
During this edition, a symposium entitled Figures du dandy, de Van Dyck à Oscar Wilde (Figures of the Dandy, from Van Dyck to Oscar Wilde), organized” within the Petit Palais Museum, proposed to analyze the evolution of the dandy figure through male portraiture from the 17th to the end of the 19th century.
2017
Finally, in 2017, Paris Tableau left France to hold its last edition in Brussels, in the spaces of the Patinoire Royale.
This was an opportunity for an exhibition-dossier dedicated to the exile of Jacques-Louis David in Belgium and the workshop he founded in Brussels, as well as a conference-debate on the place and status of ancient art within an art market strongly dominated by contemporary art.
